Today all of year 6 had a great morning out at the Newcastle Schools Athletics Championships at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow, near Newcastle.
Several of our year 6′s took part in events including sprinting, long distance running, high jump, long jump, throwing, hurdles and relay against some of the best school athletes in the city.
There some great individual performances and the support from our other year 6′s was fantastic! Special mentions should go to Joe H and Kieran P who finished 5th in the hurdles and sprint respectively. Also, Sasha R should be credited for picking herself up and continuing her race after a nasty fall in the hurdles.
Everyone in year 6 represented Hilton superbly and a great morning was capped off as we passed the new Olympic rings on the Tyne Bridge – all set for the Olympic torch replay which will visit our city on Friday!

What an exciting thing to do! It certainly looks and sounds as though you all had a super time. Well done to Sasha for picking herself up and carrying on. By your post, I’m guessing you will have had the torch visit the city by now? We too had the torch pass through our town and the whole school went to see it. Did you manage to see it too? It is a very special thing to see.
It must have been so great to see the Tyne Bridge with the Olympic rings on it. I guess most of you are now well and truly in the mood for the Olympics themselves. Well done everyone on your racing.
